well, this is the laziest Ive ever been.
No physical work at all save for doing some plaster work for my cousin.
mental work abounds butive been getting all the sleep anyone could sk for, not having to get up for anything - its been a reallygood mind-washing for me.
(mindwashing to get rid of the brain spam)
Barbie, I wouldnt mind a token piece of wall paper from your disgusting abode.
Ill treat it like a felled enemy and "lop and ear off" or something.
(and yes I like your house too)

Did you go see her basement with the live in haunts?
Whitemanfrtown
Oct 25 2004, 10:35 AM
I did. I wasnt particulary intrigued by that part of the home.
Mainly I was down there looking at pipe runs and figuring out how these guys did the remodel hey did because the kitchen is screwed up and I was wanting to see if it could easily be re-configured in the case we wwere to do some reno's in the kitch.
The decomposing corpses didnt bother me ... they can simply be thrown out- but the pipe run was anothe story.

My house is 100 years old and ugly...apparently he didn't care for the fact that I busted my butt stripping wallpaper and painting over the past few years. The walls really could use a coat of plaster and the kitchen and bathrooms need to be gutted. But, I kind of like the fact that the walls aren't perfect and look old. Has more character. If I liked new things I wouldn't wan't to build a castle.

I had a peice of cheese in my fridge for 3 years once....Scott drinks moat*#@er made me throw it out.

But the eggs are still there from the LAST time he was living here!

I like old things too...
Laureen's house definately has potential. I like the overall structure except the kitchen of course. Never got to see the haunted basement, though. It can't be scarier then the wallpaper I imagine.

Victorian homes always have a ton of potential and great archeitecture. The problem lies in coming up with the money to make them look the way they should, especially when you have castle plans in mind!

Oct 26 2004, 09:01 AM
Oh, Im sorry, Laureen, I didnt know that you spent lots of time taking off (
what must have been the top several layers of) the wallpaper.
I think your house does have potential.
-potential headache
-potential fire hazzard
-potential movie set loction for "Texas Chainsaw Masacre 3"
nah- its a decent building. And thankfully, its 95% cosmetics that need to be done.
I will be happy to remove the other wallpaper and skim the walls. (It would be a public service)

Whitemanfrtown

Well, I wasnt thinking of that at first- though it would probably fly.
-duck! Barbies about to throw something at us!!!
see, the neighbors are willing to pay me to increase
their equity by removing the isor...
Nah- this is just one of the income generating stepping stones.
if it happens, we'll be doing this:
Barbie's job will be slightly different:
Cleave will supply morale support:

She has a katana. Fairly accurate replica and certainly would not feel good if you were poked with it.
-but I have various fruits and vegetables and I can throw faster, more accurately, and stay at a distance - in hopes that

will get frustrated and throw the katana at me - then its all over.

My secret weapon is no longer "secret". However, you now have something to FEAR.
-now start grovelling and acting propitiative or Ill start eating some raw onions!
-that secret weapon by the way also has an Achilies heal; there are times when it can be rather disasterous... (here comes the TMI)...:
-during a massage...
-in elevators..."oh NO!"
-family get-togethers in small rooms:
then again one can be kept warm at night...

I don't care what you guys think of my house....I like it...yes what wallpaper remains is heinous and I have to repaint my ceilings because they are peeling, and the kitchen and baths need to be gutted but I love my house...so there....and hey, at least I have one. If I knew you guys were so offended by it I could have let you sleep out in the back yard...I have a tent...maybe you would have preffered that...after all, its brand spanking new.....

poor Laureen, boys will be boys. They would probably find something wrong with anything that isn't their castle.
Victorians are for a special breed. Glad I got to have the chance to live in one before the castle project too. They all have a certain charm about them. And too, being women, we can see with the forsight of what the home would look like in it's glory...much different picture!

See, you have to extrapolate from my earlier posts that I am a sadistical, twisted puppy. Hence, it follows that I collect grotesque artwork, admire domestic violence and hire Norman Bates as my interior decorator. -Of course I like the house!

Blessed Sahmain Galla! Did you do any celebrating? I worked in Salem until the drunks came out. I did manage to light a few candles for loved ones but couldn't keep awake long enough to even consider taking advantage of the veil. You def need to plan to come here next year. There are a lot of circles and other events to participate in.

Nov 1 2004, 06:50 AM
Blessed Samhain to you too Laureen! We actually had some plans to celebrate, but as usual, our mundane lives were hectic yet again. Our schedules were a bit interrupted last night and didn't get home until late. We had plans to do some veil work with the spirits here at our home, but unfortunately fell asleep on the sofa having a movie party with our children. Did a bit with family work and then exhaustion overtook us.
Next year would be wonderful to visit...will have to see if we can plan it on the books! Thanks so much! Glad to hear you were able to get a bit done. We don't play with just one group here in town, but did recieve a few invitations to join others...wish our schedules would have allowed it. Enjoy the week!

Yep, I hear you....I totally had to fight to keep my eyes open....finally had to put the candles in the sink to let them burn down so the house didn't catch fire...happy I got the little one that burn down quick.
I'm kind of wishing I did some other celebrating this year instead of working...I think I may try to change things for next year...

Thanks Duncan for the welcome...I'm sure my posts will be few at the moment. Partly because it's my busy season - but also because I'm a bit intemindated (sp?) by all the posts I've read - you all are so knowledgeable in all this stuff and I'm just an amature!!!
But I hope to be designing some fabric (through one of my suppliers) with celtic braid work - so I'm sure I'll share it when it's done - I want to use it to make some treatments in our living & dining areas! But as always I'm in awe of Megan and her tremendous handy work!!!
Thanks again for the welcome & I hope to meet & learn more of the folks here on the fourm.

First let me say that there is no reason you should feel at all intimidated around here.
We all have our own areas of knowledge and look to improve our selfs through learning just as you do. So relax and enjoy your self, your amongst friends here.

Again, Thanks for the welcome!
I guess I should share a bit about myself for the others....
I am a huge history fanatic. In school history was my favorite subject all the way through college. I am currently fascinated by the history of England, Wales, Scotland & Ireland. Maybe that comes from the fact that many of my ancestors came from those areas (that or I've just slipped a few gears!

)
I have found a wonderful fascination with the celtic knotwork and art work - the beauty of the work is truely amazing to me.
I also really love anything to do with fabrics, laces, tapestries, needlework and such. I guess that explains why just a few years ago I quit my "day" job to start my own custom home furnishings workroom!!

I like to do things in the way of the craftsman...hand sewn hems, hand sewn trims ect. Somehow, I have an un-natural aversion to using glues or iron tapes unless it's just for basting.
I'm also fascinated with floor plans and love studying the old castle floor plans on the site. I have no actual hands on knowledge --- but I love to dream!
And I guess the last note I probably should mention - if you promise not to hold it against me is that my husband is ....Sir Mech.
I guess that's all I will bore you with for the moment.

If you want any particular floorplans (or pictures) of castles in England, Scotland or Wales, just ask. I'm adding to my collection each week. For instance, this weekend I purchased two small books on Peel Castle and Castle Rushen, both on the Isle of Man. They contain some good pictures.
Enjoy your time here (and no, being married to Sir Mech will not go against you)
All the best

I can't hold that against you.

Geez so many come backs come to mind I can't choose one....sheesh!
Now that I'll hold against him, way too much opportunity for smart cracks specially since that brand new head gasket on Meg's little truck went bad and I can't use any of them!!
KelticKat
Nov 16 2004, 09:38 AM
Thanks Andrew for the welcome and the offer of the additional floor plans. I hope to have more time study the plans - but it will probably be in January - things will slow down for me then!!!

But I'm definitely going to spend time studying them and probably asking some really "intellegent" questions about them.
And as for you Duncan....all I can say is.....

And tell you that you have to deal with him directly - I'm not responsible for him or his actions!!!
Right now I'm off to see if I can make up time lost on a project yesterday due to a wonderful migrane!!

Yup your right, thats why I said I wouldn't hold that against you and I thought I dealt with him last night on the phone. I need to do more?
