Actually, the wedding was about 80 people. Just the right size. No worrys about the divorce...it happened a few years ago and I am quite content. It was not a major blow to my ego and I don't hate men LOL. I am pretty "well put together" mentally.
How wonderful was being married in Glastonbury???!!! I would LOVE to see some photos! I am a photographer and do some wedding work between commercial clients.

Not sure how many of our visitors will want such an elaborate table fair every day but I see no harm in giving it a try.
Did you say you needed the practice?
You know those trenchers... they wernt served every where and certainly not here.
If some one can't afford much we will feed them maybe for a little work or something but not with used food stuffs, thats like the penny pint, gag!!!
Unless I'm wrong, isn't bread still used in a few country's to hold certain types of foods? Can't remember right now but it seems there are a few recipes served in a similar manner.

Alright. I find it interesting that the project you're working on is so similar to what I had in mind to make. Perhaps you've taken it a little further along the lines of brew-your-own but still...gee, it's so similar. When I started with this idea I figured no one else would actually do it. A few might think it but wouldn't actually accomplish it or might start out on it and then abandon it (as I'm sure some have). I mean, really, building your own house alone is a larger-than-usual feat. Then consider going beyond that to building a castle wether folly or authentic, and then atop all this add the garnishes of the little replications...wow. So it is a bit to my surprise that I find another (or others) not only building a castle but a B+B too. That's unusual. Sometime we should talk about cooperative help on our projects. I may elect to follow in your wake. (whadda sponger! :eyebrow: )
Before i forget: when i click on a clickable smiley while creating a post, the motion of the smileys stops. Is this usual? Is there a way to get them back into motion?
As far as brew goes, I'm actually not much of a fan of drink. Snobby when it comes to that area... I have some Australian wine in a glassnext to me currently. I've never experienced ale, I like the smell and taste of Burbon but not what it does to me. I'd drink brew-your-own, though... that's got class.
Get this... I found out recently that a boyfriend of a close relative of mine owns 35 acreas right in the area that I want to build. Right?, so I'm thinking...SCORE! :idea3:
Then I find out that he'd probably only sell it for 1.2 mil. :banghead:
But hey, that's how it goes and good for the guy. I might still pursue it anyway. But how the wheels start turning when one gets hopeful.
What stage are you at now in your B+B?
:beerchug: Make mine a double.

Hi Duncan and Thecleaver!
Well, in answer to your questions.
The story was originally written as an intro for an adult "play" thread. My friend always had a flair for words and stories. So to describe the place she came up with a intricate story about this woman who was cursed by an evil empress so that whenever she set foot outside the "Keep" she changed into a black wolf. The empress was magically locked away in this place, that exists outside of time, so that all her needs would be met except for human companionship. Trying to escape she created a doorway that allowed people to "fall" inside the forest surrounding the "Keep". Two young lovers from the thirteenth century were the first to wind up there. The Empress wanted the man for herself. Unable to break the couple up, she magically cursed them so that he would be a wolf inside the Keep and she would be a wolf outside. When this didn't work in breaking the couple up, she tried to kill the black wolf with a cross bow. The man got in the way of the bolt and was killed. Then the black wolf killed the empress, tore her to pieces. Then after a time, a wounded WWI soldier "fell" into this place and the story took off from there.
As the story stands in the thread, its a wee bit too unrealistic.
The place, as for the thread has all the modern conveninces and is built for people to sexual role play. But we liked the story so much that we had planned to rewrite the whole thing as a erotic romance, a short novelette. But this time we wanted to make it much more believable. She found a picture of Hever Castle and feel in love with the tudor styling of it. So that in turn lead me here. Due to real life problems my friend was just withdraw from the project completely, so I don't know if the story will ever go anywhere now.
You actually, owned a wolf? They are beautiful animals. Sorry to hear that it died. Very loyal animals. The dog half-breeds aren't too good, but a prue wolf is a joy I'm sure.
Yes I have an image of the tatoo, I posted it in my thread "Trooper's retreat" at my home forum. Unfortunately, the file hosting for the forum isn't universal, its just for that board. The forum started as an off shoot from another forum (lots of bad blood there), most of the members found the forum as people who played a game called the sims. But the forum is alot more than that, pretty much everything. It can be wild there, though it is small, only 60 some members. Here's the URL:

We would love to have you drop by.
As to your Taven, when it opens the wife and I will have to stop by (depending on how far away it is

I'm sorry for not replying any sooner.
I got swamped and had to dog paddle to stay afloat.
On your site, it must have been some one close to you that passed. Most people stop there and never go on, especially into web design. It was a rough start but you've done well.
Hmmm, head aches, look up to find many hours have gone by with no idea how ( where does the lost time go when your on the PC? )
My start was easier then yours, for the most part I had some one to ask some things of and was able to find books that helped, then programmes, then a new PC, then more programmes, I see no end in site. ( pun! )
Like you this was all new to me. Something about the code and scripts being chicken scratch is how I stated it.
You've definitely learned far more then me in this. My dabbling hasn't been for now that is, any where near as in depth as yours.
I've had my board up about a month now and just started to make some adjustments.
What are you using for a graphics programme?
Meg my wife uses Flash, Fire works and a couple of others and I do the editing in Home site which I like alot. I out grew micro word very early on when it started to mess every thing up and all by it self too. I didn't figure I needed the extra help. :no-no:
I haven't been to that web site. I think another place that the three of us are moderators in would qualify for the title of Psycho Parlor it self, Just wish I had thought of it years ago !
Errrr, your here, posting and very welcome, in a place where people love castles and the auld ways of life. I'm not sure but some how It may be that .......o0n second thought for my own peace of mind i wont go there, :jump1:

There used to be a winery that commercially produced real mead.... not like the junk they call mead in the liquor stores around here. They had a traditional mead and a more contemporary mead that was a bit lighter. I ordered a few cases of both for my wedding...got married at Hammond Castle, had to have mead
It was an awesome wedding with everyone including guests in period costume, Madrigal quartet and roaming minstrals
I think the wedding lasted longer than the marriage
Most people liked the contemporary mead...I prefer the good old fashioned stuff. I guess the winery produced it because there are few good Ren faires in NY.
I'm always on the lookout for a good mead. I don't drink very much...maybe a guinness every couple of weeks, but mead is something I like to keep in the house for special occasions.

80 people? I couldn't put 80 people together period. No way...no how.
Thats good the divorce has not left lasting bitterness. Actually mine hasn't either and I've heard from my x not long ago. She's gone down a different path then I, Thank Heaven!!!!!
Hmmm pretty well mentally put together...thats better then me!! I look at the piles of stone and wonder about my sanity.
LOL
We had a very private ceremony.
Later some one we know remarked about how large the "presence" was and it's implecations... what ever that means.
We have no pictures of the ceremony only of the ruins and a few of the Tor. We are not the tourist types and our pictures kinda reflect that. I'll try to put up a few images on this board today or tomorrow, but don't hold your breath, they may not be interesting in the normal ways. ???
I don't know how proficient you are with these things so I don't mean to step on your toes with this info.
Our members can add images to their posts if they wish, if you don't have them on the web some where you can email them to me and I'll add them to a file or to your post.
The attach a file/ Browse button below the box where you write a post also will add images directly from your PC.
You can add them to a PM also.
We lost many of my hacks/programme modifications when the host crashed but these things still work.
PM me if you have problems.

Aug 24 2004, 08:28 AM

well thank you Duncan! I suppose I could introduce myself....just your average good-natured, well rounded (and educated), ecclectic (and sometimes nutty) aquarian here. I have been researching history since I could walk and always told my parents I was just in the wrong time period (perhaps they just dropped me on my head too many times), but at least I have dreams and goals.
I am a member of the SCA in Calontir (for any that might know what that is) and I primarily study fiber arts and the culture and lost arts and sciences of Medieval and Renaissance periods. My husband and I are in the process of researching his family history so that we might recreate a family castle here in the Ozarks (yeah, we tend to be a bit wacked at times).
I suppose that sums most of it up, but you can always ask questions if you're further curious. (at your own risk of course)

)
Duncan
Aug 24 2004, 09:23 AM
I hope your studies have taken you out of what the SCA has to offer. I have to admit the organization has a bad name in this area as far as authenticity goes. But I guess thats why its got Creative in it's name maybe, O'well tis life.
What type of castle are you thinking of building?
Nutty? you ain't seen nutten yet believe me

..things get strange around here,

but its all in good fun with the bits and bobs of seriousness thrown in of course.
Galla
Aug 24 2004, 10:59 AM
Actually we are looking into reproducing a style similiar to Pencoed Castle, offering tidbits of family history and archiving whatever pieces we can get our hands on. The original plan was to scale down what the original had to offer, but with me being a space whore (have to find somewhere to put all of these books and antiques) and with our interests being many and diverse, we are looking at trying to get as close as we can to the original size (note taking many years and lost of laboring). The plans are still in the works and will probably not be finalized until we can actually get to see the real thing.
As for the SCA, everyone gets out what they put in. I tend to try and research fully then recreate using as close to the materials and processes as I can. I find that as the years in progress, so do my projects. I do agree that chocoloate chip cookie dough may not be period...but I like it. LOL So again, to each their own - and yes, most don't make all that much effort..but remember too, it is supposed to be fun.

Hello,Galla. Im Scott drinks moat*#@er.
"The cleaver" and I are working together on a castle building project. Actually, Lauren and Duncan have been roped into it as well.
Read all your posts. Would like to chat more. Seems like youve started a similar project.
Yeah, we kinda "give it" to the SCA - but then again Im no authority on their organization so ... honestly I prefer not to judge too sincerely before inspection.
First thing I would say is tha this website has been a vital springboard for me in my project endeavors: Knowledgable, down-to-earth crowd - good stuff.
Straight up: We have loads of data . Were quite serious about the project.
Are you looking for anything imparticular? Plan on sticking around if you like what you see?
Whats cooking on your side?

Thank you for the warm welcome Scott drinks moat*#@er and great to meet you! It is always great to meet like minded people with high dreams and goals (kinda makes you feel like you're not the only crazy one!) I would be very interested in hearing more of what you and Cleave are working on, what stages of progress you are in and how things are going. We am definately no experts in this undertaking and seek all the help we can get!
Some like the SCA, some don't. Again to each their own. I enjoy the friends I have made and having the chance to share project ideas and have a few crazy people like me around to bounce ideas off of. Been with the group since I was 15 yrs old (twice that now), so kinda have some ties. I don't agree with everything they do, but I just enjoy the companionship and educational aspects of it. Nice when friends know what I am talking about too! I don't take much personally, so no worries on the badgering of the group.
I love what I have seen here so far, and yes, very great group with down to earth info. More serious than other sites I have seen. I have so many interests that these forums are perfect! Still catching up on all the old stuff, but almost there. I would love to stick around and plan to (granted I don't get too freaky that they kick me off) and look forward to sharing info and ideas.
Unfortunately mundane life calls and have to get the kids going for the day. Gotta love school! House is clean so should be online doing research later. Perhaps we can find some time to chat later. Love to hear of how things are going!
Thanks for the sniff!

it def takes a different breed to seriously want to build/live in a castle...or in my case, prob a fortified manor. Totally not looked at "normal"....lol
Duncan
Aug 25 2004, 12:34 PM
Errr Laureen...normal does not go with the title of castle builder nor watcher, just thought you would want to have that reaffirmed.
And I'm trying real hard not to

LMAO at this point, but ok after a deep breath or two maybe I can finish this post.
Years ago when I was thinking of building a folly and considering all types of construction with castle facades, that could have been excepted as a wee bit out of the norm, but when I took my life long dream a step further, then I think is when I went into and past the point of what can be considered sane today!!
Would I have continued building if the lived in castle that was willed to me had not been stolen? Yes I think so. No I can not do anything legal to get it back so I'll build my own.
