Been doing some work on my own site, Cathcart and Caerlaverock now added, and I hope all the links are working now!
See what you think, I'm not 100% on the idea of those large images, but some folks wanted them. I'm not doing more like that.

Good scanner idea thanks!
Thought it might make things easier for those seeking more info and images.
I'm mean sometimes and have thought of having larger then normal images on the pay per item bases but Meg

keeps me in line

It can scan to 1200dpi, but those scans are only at 400.
All the photo editing suites I have can't cope with a photgrapic image above 500dpi, but I have scanned some stuff at 600 before. Obviously it depends a bit on your software and Pc, but I've got 256 MB Ram, and a 600 Scan is kinda slow, taking several minutes.
What I'd need to scan at 1200dpi I don't know!
And it wasn't expensive....for me, Janette got me it for Xmas!

Con grats and she did well.
I'm not sure about the 1200 but I can check on it. We need more memory in this PC and all the lap tops too.
Meg uses Macromedia and Photo Shop which bought out Macromedia the other day. Plus she has several other image programmes too.
I have to admit your images look good even at that scale. I hope who ever wanted them likes it that size.

It dates back to my CQ

days when Ted only gave me 10MB for my web site, my present host allows 150, provided it's divided into 5 x 30MB sites. I've used 25 so far, but those images I put in today used 10, and the entire rest of the site is 15!!
I can set up the other websites, and link them.
Way back then folks wanted the plans and drawings to be more legible, ie they wanted it bigger so they could measure the scales more easily.
I got a request the other day from a couple of folks who had posted in CQ, for Caerlaverock or Blackness. Sent them 1 of Caerlaverock and put it and the rest on my site today. They needed detail, and the scales.

I'd say they got the scale and the details in those images.
I look back at those early times and shudder, how the hell was any thing done in that little of space.
Our main host package is 500 mgb and the the other pack is over 2gb both professional set ups.
You'd better go then, hey what was for dinner any way? I'm thinking of dropping by for left overs

Peeled the spuds, and waiting on them, having them with a cheat recepie for mushrooms & chicken in a cream of mushroom sauce.
Fry the chopped chicken pieces , an onion and a handfull of chopped mushrooms in some olive oil, add some garlic, oregano, basil and thyme, then pour in a tin of condensed cream of mushroom soup. Takes 20 minutes, same as mashed creamed potatoes and I could live on it!
these guys who wanted the drawings are Architecture students from ?Canada, and are building a detailed scale model.

Thanks you just added to some great recipies you have given us.
A detailed scale model, interesting.
I started to put together a small scale model of our plans some time ago.

Like that recipe too. Make it quite often and even the kiddos will eat it! Like your site too btw Gordon, have visited quite often over the years, but will have to check it out again sometime this week when I have a few. Thanks for all the hard work and sharing!

I am also quite impressed with the way your web pages have been evolving. The larger images are very nice if someone has to see and have all the little details. Maybe one day you will have a scaled down model of the castle to post if and when they finish.

Be nice to get a picture of it anyway, the model, not sure I've got the space to keep it!

Since the demise of Dave Caw's Caledonian castles web site, a lot of my 'History' links are now broken, so I'll have to spend some time editing my site. While I'm at it, has anyone got any requests for additions by way of larger images or sites which are not included?

I managed to download and save a number of his pictures, and for my collection, paid him for some hard copies. I'm glad I did, 'cos they were great photos. It was a shame his website disappeared.

Does any one know why the site was taken down?
Gordon
Feb 10 2006, 12:12 PM
No, but at the time I was getting e-mails from the guy who ran the Castles Webring, asking me, and virtually asking me to go and chap his door to ask, since Dave wasn't even answering e-mails. He even gave me his address which he had gained through Dave's domain name registration. He was given a polite refusal.

GSCRP has been removed from the internet.
All links to it within individual threads will be replaced within those threads by the rescanned original drawings, with better definition.
All entries in GSCRP will eventually be placed here as full entries as per standard.
In short GSCRP drawings will be incorporated in full within the CD Scottish Forum.

I see you've been a busy bee here in the Scottish forum. I guess you're previous entry explains why. Good luck.

The site 'went down' makes it sound like the Titanic!
It didn't really go down, I just decided it was becoming obsolete and too much work to update, and besides there's more room in here to grow!

Sorry its a programmers phrase that encompasses many reasons for a site to be off the web. Didn't mean for it sound like a disaster happened.
I am glad your here and thanks again for that.
Hey I can try out a new smilie now .....

Just added my latest list of links to 'Gordon's Links', these are ones that eventually would have replaced the broken links in GSCRP, and some that were already there. Any useful articles were posted here sometime ago.
