Every where including on the web are individuals and company's that offer construction services.
Many are legit and have the credentials to prove it, but just as many are fraudulent.
When looking into a individuals or company's services take the time to inquire about their policies on Insurance, taxes, permits and licenses, who does the leg work with the locale government, who or what is the back ground of their skilled craftsmen, what unions if any do they belong to, what groups or affiliations do they have with the national organizations that are construction orientated.

I was surfing on the net today and ran across a site that offered building services, one of many actually some good and some questionable, but his one stood out like a thumb hit by a roofing hammer.
They wanted a person, thats you and me folks, to believe they had experience with every type of construction from Timber Framing to Ancient Stone Walls, their prices varied from way to much to out of this world you've got to be kidding!!!
Never a mention of any kind of credentials, licensing, bonding, insurance, or the stuff that makes a company more then a fly by night rip off.

I wouldn't have this type of individuals build my dog house let along my castle!!
Folks all I can say is, take a really good look before you start forking over the green stuff.
Theres bad and good every where.

Ill second that for the most part.
Ive been a house painter for 14 years.  Have had my own business since 2000.  In all that time Ive never met a painter who said "Hello.  I'm a slop-artist."  -Yet they exist.  I wish they wwould introduce themselves that way it would eliminate having to find out the hard way.
I have also found that the fact of being licenced/insured isnt necessarily an index of quality of workmanship or capability.  Still, the homeowner can pursue the contractor in court wich is nice for the homeowner.
My personal opinion is that if an individual  lacks  skill, responsibility and morales to the point of being fraudulent as in a scene like aforementioned, then he probably deserves to be drawn and quatered.  At least kept off the playing field of builders and contractors and placed in an atmosphere a little more befitting - say jail.  Community service.  Low guy on the totum pole at the local fast food joint.

Duncan, what was the deal you saw?  were they asking for money up front or was it like custom work that had set prices already stated?
Duncan
They advertised all work in the foot/per dollar style with pre set prices.   Eyecrazy.gif
There was a whole page devoted to explanations and F/Q's that would do a politician proud in a electron year.
Most if not all FACTS stated from a historical viewpoint   was erroneous and badly researched.
It went past opinion into ludicrous.  jump1.gif

What got me combined with the aforementioned problems was their prices that in no way could ever be guaranteed.
One paragraph stated firmly that the cost covered everything, then the next one stated most was up to the owner and his/her responsibility.

They had pre made up floor plans that looked as if some one used graph paper to make. Which is OK if your not offering them as blue prints to the public!  :sneaky2.gif:

This is a list of how they described their business,
being Experts in Cold Weather Construction, and Structural Masons, with Expert Knowledge in Physics, as well as Engineering on very Difficult Sites no less, and of course.... Chemistry!   glare.gif
SAY WHAT?!?!?
( I forgot to mention rocket science, biology with degrees in animal husbandry, dog walking and poop scooping. )

Before my military/Federal Government days I was a journeyman carpenter in the union and had mostly done rough out from bridges to high rise buildings.
That kind of site makes me disgusted!!   cul.gif

I'm off my soap box now.

If any one is wondering about the web site that is UN NAMED above it will stay that way.
The above for mentioned UN NAMED site has since been taking off the net for unknown reasons, at least by me, but I can only guess it had something to do maybe with fraud.
I do not know for sure why (nor do I care), so please people stop trying to tie it into existing web sites and/or use it for other purposes.
I really don't have any thing to do with policing the web and if you suspect illegal activity's from a site please turn it into the proper authority's.
Which is not me or this site!

Have a Nice Day  laughlong.gif
