Full Version: Wall Hangings
Well, this was about four years ago when I read the book the first time...all that I can remember is that they were silk(i think...) and had very exquisite artistry. I' m trying to find the book to check it out again...it's a easy read...a young adult level novel almost.
No need for a report here, this is supposed to be a fun place and no where near a formal class room. :rasp: But I am interested in what you find out.
We went out the other day looking for mushrooms and wild silk cocoons, didn't find either because it was still too cold for the M'rooms and we had already looked in that area of the woods for the cocoons.
Meg almost harvested several spider nests for spinning a couple of months back but left them for re-population.
Watching her gather the webs and then to spin them is fascinating.
How she will find and "shoe" off a errant spider with out losing a beat on the wheel is another miracle to me.

No i haven't and will ask Megan when she gets back from teaching a class.

I do understand....that's quite a talent...I don't think that I would have the patience for such an activity (as you may have noticed) Well, I'm going to pick the book up soon and I'll read it and "report" if you will, back with more information. :grinning:

Has anyone here read the book *bear with me* A taste of Scarlet and Minever? (Sorry if I miswrote the name....it's been a while since I've read this book.) Anyway, It's about King Louis the 14th (I think
) he married a french princess and she had a "champagne" taste for wall hangings.....
I believe the book is written by E.L. Konigsburg (excuse the misspelling of the name)

Meg said to tell you before she left again today that she had not read the book but was interested in what the hangings were like.
We grow silk worms and then spin the thread, yes even I can spin silk on a spinning wheel. It took Meg years to get me to even try it and once I did I found it very relaxing.
To make a wall hanging from silk would be a major undertaking. To make one garment can require millions of cocoons.

Aha! I just reserved a copy of the book (it's miniver, not minever...my mistake)
I was just joking about the whole report thing....I hope you know that :rasp: I'm truly happy someone like webs...I can't even stand spiders...yuk!
