Another large tome which I've purchased on CD-Rom. I'm not sure how much it would cost to buy the actual book - possibly around £250 or more.

Lots of interesting pictures Ralph, which I will get copied for you.

Here's a taster or two.

In reply to Duncan - the first picture above is Prudhoe Castle, Northumberland. I admit that the text is not very clear though. I have some other pictures of the castle, and the Buck brothers produced an engraving (I have a copy which I copied off the internet). The castle does not appear to be well known, but I visited it a few years ago whilst enroute to Scotland.

The second is Edinburgh Castle. I have been copying some of the pictures on my work pc, as I have Adobe Reader 6.0 there, but only 5.0 at home. I have copied around 100 of the castle pictures so far - there are hundreds of pictures, but not all of castles.

I do actually have an original copy of this book - my parents found it left in the cellar of a house they moved into about 40 years ago, and recently gave it to me. Unfortunately it is too big to fit on my own scanner (the book measures about 27cm by 37cm, and is 6.5cm thick). My copy was printed between 1845 and 1860. Having the CD-Rom is very useful.

In reply to Galla - perhaps I should start placing the images in the Gallery. I am unsure whether they should go in the relevant county Album, or in a completely separate location.

I'll put another couple here for now, and see what I can do. I am in the process of scanning sketches of castles by Nigel Tranter, and saving them to disc, along with the hundreds of vintage postcards, and other castle prints I've purchased.

They are forming a great CD-Rom.

I have spent quite a bit of time in your galleries looking through the castle pictures. Thanks so much for putting in all the work to share them! claps28.gif

Thank you for the compliment Galla.

I don't want my collection to sit around in a dark corner. I had initially wanted to display all the old prints and vintage postcards on the walls of my house, but with nearly 1800, my wife was naturally a touch grumpy. So showing some of them off in the gallery here is the next best thing. With another 1400 modern postcards or photos, some of which would also be suitable for display, you can understand why my wife is not keen.

Still - we're off to Hay-on-Wye over the Easter break, which is the world's "Second-Hand Book Capital". They also sell old prints (or did when I was there two years ago), so I'm saving my pennies.

Now, if I'm going to buy more castle stuff, where do I put it - and what to do with the wife butcher.gif

My friend, as you know all ready, you can put up your entire collection and it wont hurt a thing, hope you do in fact!
Wish you the best of look in your quest and hunt for prints and postcards too!!

Doesn't Hay-on-Wye have something to do with the Arthurian myths, something about the hooves of the knights horses being herd on certain days of the year...Or am I thinking of some place else?
(I know I know...there isn't any place that doesn't have to do with the myth/fact of Author.)
