Full Version: The castle that never was

Duncan
Many years ago in CQ I got to know some one who was building a castle with his wife in Texas.
He and I exchanged many ideas and concepts with several going into my plans for our castle. For this and the help he gave plus other things I'll always be grateful
These were his concept plans before his divorce so I don't think he will mind my posting them here.
He later remarried and bought a tower house in Ireland known as Ballytarsna Castle which I will add his first concept sketches soon.

Cool.
The first point wherethe road enters the castle gives an alternative idea for a car port.
Were the castle to beon a slope thiswould workout well without detracting from the appearance of the castle (due to the architetural beauty being blocked by another, lesser-aestetic structure) -get the concept because those words didnt come out perfectly.

In the plans I've yet to put up he took the location of a 15th Century Hall and turned it into a 4 car garage with rooms above so yes it is possible to hide a car port or garage.

What to do with cars is a bit of a problem. Check out these factors:
1)you want to protect them (so have them inside)
2)they dont go with the castle decor (so hide tem away)
3)I dont wanna walk 500 feet every time I want to drive somewhere (inside)
4)I dont like the idea of show-off boyfriends dating my daughter(s) peeling-out on the coblestone driveway = buy a shotgun and non-residents park elsewhere.
5)Driving over a drawbridge means its got to be either a)very sturdy and more expensive or b)stationary.
so whatever.... guess Ill go do this for a while: banghead.gif

I know. Its scary, huh?
Can you imagine what kind of lunch I'd pack the girls?
Im eating more of that triscuits-n-prego sauce... not too bad.
-at least no other kids will steal their lunch, eh?
Laureen
Poor girls....they won't even have trade clout in the lunch room...better let Jen make their lunch.

What are the castle walls for if its not to protect?

2)they dont go with the castle decor (so hide tem away)
try a small car park with 6 foot crenelated walls

3)I dont wanna walk 500 feet every time I want to drive somewhere (inside)
get a golf cart lazy!

4)I dont like the idea of show-off boyfriends dating my daughter(s) peeling-out on the coblestone driveway = buy a shotgun and non-residents park elsewhere.
...will they sell you a firearm? eee.gif

Peeling out on cobblestones will drop the differential gears in one heck of a hurry which would make Sir Mech very happy!

Static display only if you want it to be.
Very sturdy doesn't mean necessarily expensive, thats what this forum is about, discussions on how to make castle building affordable.
